Registration open for exhibitors and participants, and showcase applications now under way

jazzahead! is going to celebrate its next edition of the international jazz scene event. From Thursday 19th to Sunday 22nd April 2018, the world jazz scene is meeting up for the 13th time to share information, hold debates and network at Exhibition Center Bremen. Exhibitors, co-exhibitors and professional participants can now register at www.jazzahead.de. Signing up by Friday 13th October ensures professional participants an early bird discount.

“The application process is now also open for the jazzahead! showcase festival and accessible via the website. Submissions can be sent in until Tuesday 2nd November 2017”, explains Sybille Kornitschky, project manager at MESSE BREMEN. Four international juries comprising festival directors, programme planners and media representatives will decide which artists get to play in front of the international audience of experts in one of the 40 short concerts.

The “Polish Night” will put the spotlight on Poland as the partner country of 2018, while the “German Jazz Expo” will focus on the German scene. The “European Jazz Meeting” will dedicate 16 showcases to current trends in European jazz, and non-European musicians will hold a further eight concerts as part of Saturday’s “Overseas Night”. All application details can be found online.

Playing at jazzahead! has already kick-started the career of several musicians. Patricia Johnston, the manager of American jazz guitarist Gilad Hekselman, describes his showcase appearance in 2017 as an “all-round success“. She says it helped him reach out to a new audience, present his music, listen to other musicians, network and exchange ideas. “And, of course, we were then booked to play some shows in Europe”. One other main added value of showcase performances is that musicians receive a professional video of their concerts to promote themselves.

Since it began in 2006, jazzahead! is still the only event of its kind in the world. Alongside the trade fair, it has a festival with showcases, events to promote the culture of the partner country and a clubnight at dozens of venues in the City of Bremen. All festival dates are open to the general public.

This specialist trade fair welcomed 1,356 exhibiting companies in 2017, and 3,169 participants were registered. The trade fair and concerts held over the four main days of jazzahead! 2017 attracted 17,664 people. This reflected yet another clear growth: In 2016, event organisers counted 969 companies, 2,742 participants and 15,614 visitors at the trade fair and concerts.

The opening times for 2018 have been slightly changed. The trade fair runs from 12:00 to 19:00 on the opening day and is open from 10:00 to 19:00 all other days. Evening showcases begin thirty minutes later at 19:30.
