For example, on the CD “3 Guitars” (2003), with legends John Abercrombie and Larry Coryell playing their guitars, Assad played hers... and also vocals, flute, kalimba, percussion and mouth percussion.”

CONNIE HAN (US)
With the release of her 2018 Mack Avenue Music Group debut, Crime Zone, pianist/keyboardist Connie Han seized the attention of the jazz world and firmly established herself as a fast-rising star on the scene. That stratospheric ascent continues on her captivating follow-up, Iron Starlet, out 2020. She cites Kenny Kirkland and Mulgrew Miller as important inspirations for her. And what is the joy of jazz for her? “There's a gritty rub to how people play together."

ESCALANDRUM (AR)
Argentinian drummer Daniel "Pipi" Piazzolla is a grandson of Astor Piazzolla, the legendary founder of ‘Tango Nuevo’. The name ESCALANDRUM, is formed from "Escalandr n" (the sand tiger shark) and "drum". The band’s eleventh album, "Studio 2", recorded in Abbey Road Studios, picked up three awards at the 2019 Gardel Awards, including “Jazz Album of the Year.”

Etuk Ubong + The Etuk's Philosophy (NG)
Etuk Ubong has “a great sound, richly textured and generous” and has already been called “a fresh new voice in the international jazz scene” (London Jazz News). Born in Nigeria in 1992, he has performed at Gilles Peterson’s ‘We Out Here’ festival, and in a BBC live transmission from the 2019 London Jazz Festival. Ubong draws inspiration from the jazz greats, from afrobeat, highlife and ekombi.

Faraj Suleiman (PS)
Faraj Suleiman is a Palestinian composer/pianist based in Paris where he has an artistic residency at Cité des Arts. His music combines different influences: from Bach to Piazzolla to little elements of jazz as well as rock and of course Arabic music. So far he fascinated at festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, EnjoyJazz, Womex and the London Jazz Festival.

Ron Minis Trio (IL)
Tel Aviv-based multi-instrumentalist Ron Minis has a popular YouTube channel with a massive following: The video "When you want to play solos like Slash but your parents made you learn piano" has had over 9 million views. After producing projects, mainly in the punk, noise and metal genres, Ron now brings those experiments and experiences into the jazz piano trio format.

SooJin Suh Chordless Quartet (KR)
Reviewers praised drummer SooJin Suh’s playing in Near East Quartet’s 2018 ECM release: she “engages with traditional Korean rhythms by playing in the negative space around them.” (Financial Times). For her second project as leader, Chordless Quartet, “the whole theme is space and freedom,” SooJin says. With no harmonic instrument, she explores harmony and space, and can range more freely.
