“She goes uncompromisingly her own way, making her one of the most extraordinary voices in jazz,” wrote Olaf Maikopf of JAZZTHETIK magazine about Israeli-born singer, poet and composer Efrat Alony. In recent years she has been the vocalist with many of Europe’s top big bands, but with her 2021 album “Hollywood Isn’t Calling”, which has been nominated for two prizes at the German Jazz Awards, there is a strong sense she has broken new ground. Maikopf: “she has reached a new level, sometimes sounding here like a troubadour who draws from the centuries and confidently exploits all the resources of the present. These songs are multi-layered imaginary films about the present that reverberate in the mind and heart and get the brain and body moving through modern jazz.”Efrat Alony (voc), Frank Wingold (g), Henning Sieverts (b), Heinrich Köbberling (d)
