Large Ensemble of the Year nominees at the inaugural German Jazz Awards, Fuchstone Orchestra was founded in 2018 by co-directors Christina Fuchs and Caroline Thon. Based at Cologne’s Stadtgarten venue, the orchestra comprises 22 outstanding musicians who produce a new orchestral sound that goes way beyond the conventional limits of the Big Band. Its repertoire is a constant process of experimentation. As Jazzzeitung noted: “The composers had a totally convincing success in embedding electronic sounds, samples and clusters in the big band sound [..] They conveyed and evoked images on a large scale in a way that was always not just sensitive but also playful.” Christina Fuchs & Caroline Thon (conducting, composition), Roger Hanschel (sax), Julius van Rhee (sax), Matthew Halpin (sax), Jens Böckamp (sax), Susanne Weidinger (sax), Christian Mehler (tpt), Matthias Knoop (tpt), John-Dennis Renken (tpt), Matthias Bergmann (tpt), Janning Trumann (tb), Matthias Schuller (tb), Ben Degen (tb), Wolf Schenk (tb), Filippa Gojo (voc), Zuzana Leharovà (vl), Laia Genc (p), Andreas Wahl (g), Alexander Morsey (b), Jens Düppe (dr), Eva Pöpplein (electronics / live samples)
