„Mother” is the story of Athina Kontou, a musician born to Greek parents in Frankfurt, Germany, who considers both countries her home. In this project she connects her identity as a jazz musician with her Greek roots in a band that combines contemporary jazz sound and traditional Greek music. For this venture, the bassist has gathered three outstanding musicians that have all found their voice in jazz and improvised music, namely Luise Volkmann (sax), Lucas Leidinger (p) and Dominik Mahnig (dr). Together they are „Mother“ and their debut album “Tzivaeri” was released in August 2022 on nWog-Records. “Tzivaeri mou” means “my precious” in the local Greek language, a dialect that has been influenced by many cultures. The album was nominated in two categories for the German Record Critics Award and is nominated for the German Jazz Price as Debut Album of the Year.
