“An essential creative catalyst on a scene teeming with musicians eager to blend jazz with its South American siblings.” (Boston Globe). A native of Buenos Aires, Sofia Rei originally entered the conservatoire there to become an opera singer. In 2005 she moved to New York City and embarked on enriching experiences with Bobby McFerrin and the Maria Schneider Orchestra. On her most recent, seventh, album “Umbral” (Threshold) she creates a daring new soundscape that blends South American folk with pop, electronic music and improvisation. It has had a strong impact: “UMBRAL is a raw expression of curious creativity and brave experimentation. Sublime. Five Stars.” (Songlines)Sofia Rei (voc, charango, electronics), JC Maillard (g, b, electronics), Sabrina Romero (percus, voc), Jorge Glem (cuatro)
