French-Armenian pianist Yessaï Karapetian, (b. Yerevan 1993) grew up in Marseille and is based in Paris. Winner of two DownBeat Student Music Awards in 2020, for both piano and composition, and of the Letter One Rising Star award (2021/22), he received early encouragement from Tigran Hamasyan, and studied at Berklee with Danilo Perez. His debut album “Yessai” (Kyudo, 2022) has been described as having “overwhelming energy, power, but also invention, powerful music with multiple influences.” (Jazz’halo, Belgium). Or as he himself describes his music: “jumping off a cliff without a parachute, to be able to fly and do the impossible in front of everyone, or only in front of God.”
