Pianist/composer Britta Virves was born in Saaremaa, Estonia and is based in Stockholm. Within a few years after moving to Sweden, she was touring with the Norrbotten Big Band (dir. Joakim Milder) and started to work with vocalist Genevieve Artadi. Virves has now become one of the most sought-after pianists in Swedish jazz. Her compositions are meditations on the wonder of nature, ecological webs of interconnectedness, and the people and places she calls home. Her new album “Simple Things” with Artadi as guest, is an accessible, compelling blend of excitement and introspection. She says of her regular trio partners: “They’re like an ocean, they know when to chill and when to rush in.”
