„ Non-one else experienced jazzahead! digital as closely and as intense as you. You moderated for four days, you were our anchorman.
What feedback did you receive on this first time digital event of jazzahead! 2021? How did you experience the event yourself? "
„ I feel like I can’t make an objective judgement here, as I had been too closely involved. The feedback I received was all over good. The professional implementation, the possibility to work and talk together in interactive rooms, all this was considered very positively. "
„ What benefits as well as drawbacks did you see in the digitalisation of the trade fair? "
„ Benefits could definitely be seen from an environmental perspective. There were no long travels, no hotels. At the same time, this was also the drawback: you didn’t get to meet in person. Meetings and conversations are different when you meet face to face and have direct talks – especially in the evening at the concerts, after the official trade fair. A digital event can only capture the charm of this family gathering to an extent. As much as we did it with this event. "
„ In general, improvisation, the basic element of Jazz, makes it a rather communicative and social form of music. How much, in your opinion, did the pandemic and the correlated digitalisation change the business and the musical content? "
„ This is a difficult question to answer. In some cases, new cooperation between artists were created, just because of these special circumstances. Musicians reached out to new colleagues, they normally wouldn’t contact. Contacts usually formed at jazzahead! or at festivals were now, due to the pandemic, created online, for example via social media.
Nevertheless, very few Jazz artists are able to make a living just off of their digital and physical CD sales. The pandemic sure caused some drastic changes here. "
„ Which development do you see as a win for the international jazz scene and what would you like to maintain for the future? "
„ I noticed an increased openness, possibly even more international togetherness. Both are positive developments, which should be kept and saved for the post- pandemic era. "
„ What are you looking forward to most for the next year?"
„ I would be happy about a hybrid form of jazzahead! in the next year. Digital and online for more – and even more – international participants. In addition to this however, we need the big family gathering in Bremen. "
