The line-up is now announced for the 2019 jazzahead! GALAKONZERT at Die Glocke Concert Hall. With this announcement, one of the major highlights of the programme involving partner country Norway, and also of the trade fair is now in place. The Mathias Eick Quintet and Trail of Souls will perform at Bremen’s Glocke Concert Hall on Friday, 26 April 2019. Norway has had one of the most exciting and creative jazz scenes in Europe for more than 40 years. The two bands on this double-bill are from very different strands of it, and reflect its sheer quality and breadth. Tickets for this concert have just been put on sale.
Peter Schulze, one of the Artistic Directors of jazzahead! says: „Mathias Eick is one of the truly original talents of the Norwegian scene and is in his prime. He has found his own unmistakable voice as a trumpeter and composer.” Though not yet 40, Eick has already been part of the scene for 20 years according to the expert. Schulze: “In Trail of Souls, Solveig Slettahjell’s uniquely beguiling voice and the earthy blues of guitarist Knut Reiersrud combine to create a totally captivating and surprising insight into the precursors of modern American music.”
The next jazzahead! will take place from Thursday 25 April until Sunday 28 April 2019 at Messe Bremen. The festival accompanying the trade fair starts earlier, on Saturday, 13 April. It will focus on other facets of Norwegian culture, such as the country’s broader literary scene, and will involve several of Bremen’s cultural institutions. So the gala concert occupies a very special place within the framework of this festival and in the jazzahead! programme. “What it does is to bring the partner country’s music right up close to the audience, in all its glorious and vivid tones and colours“, says Schulze. Industry people and the wider public can also get a good impression of Norway’s jazz scene at the showcase concerts of the „Norwegian Night“ on the opening evening of the trade fair on Thursday, 25 April.
Meanwhile, preparations for the jazzahead! CLUBNIGHT on 27 April, are under way, and tickets are already on sale. Hotels, museums, churches and pubs in Bremen will be transformed into jazz clubs for one night. „We currently estimate that around 30 venues in Bremen will be taking part in the Long Night of Jazz,“ announces Sybille Kornitschky, Project Manager of jazzahead! at Messe Bremen. A ticket for the concert night gives entry to all of the participating venues. It is also valid as a ticket for local public transport in the whole of the Bremen and Lower Saxony transport network and is valid until 10.00 a.m. on the following day.
