Celebrate the music: CLUBNIGHT programme for April 25

The legendary jazzahead! allnighter in 35 clubs in Bremen, Germany, kicks off on the last Friday in April.

Discover international newcomers and established bands, check out experimental sounds, and danceable grooves in one long Friday night – all across the festival city of Bremen, with just one ticket.

85 concerts, 35 clubs, one ticket – the key facts of jazzahead! CLUBNIGHT. A night for all music lovers. From an upcoming New York Vocal Jazz star to a Tomorrow’s Warrior from London, via Brazilian Folk, or Fusion, Flamenco, Soul, Rock from all over the world, and even classical influences, nearly all forms of Jazz (and genres on the fringes) are represented.

The ticket price (39 reg./19 red.) includes public transportation, allowing you to easily reach clubs and venues (including a church, a boat and two museums) across the city. Registered professionals of jazzahead! trade fair can purchase the ticket at a reduced rate.

Label- and country-themed evenings are spread throughout the city. Among them some Nordic nights, one at the Kulturzentrum Lagerhaus where Saxophonist Óskar Guðjónsson (from Icelandic indie-jazz band ADHD) and pianist Magnús Jóhann are presenting their introverted duo sounds. Stockholm-based bassist and composer Ilaria Capalbo will perform a remarkable mix of classical, jazz, and experimental music.

Saxophonist Bendik Hofseth, once a member of the legendary fusion band Steps Ahead, has long been a globally esteemed ECM artist. The Oslo native will perform with other established Norwegian artists at Achat Hotel Bremen City.

Danish saxophonist Cecilie Strange, renowned for her hypnotic minimalism, will be heard at Lila Eule. Meanwhile, Zentrum für Kunst will feature the Baltic scene. Among the artists: Estonian pianist and storyteller Kadri Voorand, as well as Weird Ugly Fish, a punky electronica/krautrock duo from Lithuania.

The flourishing young UK scene is strongly represented at this year’s CLUBNIGHT as well. Trumpeter and bandleader Mark Kavuma (who rose to fame alongside London’s Tomorrow’s Warriors programme) will perform at the Shakespeare Company, as will bluesy singer Jo Harrop. Ant Law, hailed by the press as „one of the most original guitarists of his generation,“ will be heard in an intimate setting at Stadtkirche Vegesack.

Other highlights include jazzahead!’s curated evening at Fritz Theater presenting Tyreek McDole (first ever male vocalist to win the “Sarah Vaughan award”), Chilean Indie-Jazz from María y Los Templos, and the supremely funky “Eme Eme Project” from Madrid.

The stage of the prestigious Metropol Theater will belong to Grammy-winning New York singer Nicole Zuraitis. Zuraitis, celebrated for her voice and charisma, will be accompanied on piano by Taylor Swift’s musical director David Cook.
