In 2018, Tonina posted on Facebook: "My forever president put my song 'Historia De un Amor' on his best songs of 2018 list! I fell down the stairs. Come back Barack." Born in San Diego, California, raised in St. Louis, Missouri, trained at Berklee, and based in New York, the bassist, composer and singer is a melting pot of cultures and musical influences. She performs her originals and her arrangements of covers in Spanish, English and Italian. As a vocalist, she impresses with her charismatic voice, often compared to that of Billie Holiday. As a bassist, she has been likened to Esperanza Spalding.
