about jazzahead! trade fair

jazzahead! is more than a fair – it is THE most important meeting place for the international jazz scene. As a trade event, it has long established itself firmly with industry representatives from Germany, Europe and around the world. This fair offers agencies, labels, artists, media representatives, producers and organizers the opportunity to get together. This fair is the only one in the world to place jazz at the center of the action.
jazzahead! unites under its roof a music trade fair with its own showcase festival, conferences and also a city-wide festival with a CLUBNIGHT in Bremen. This way jazzahead! opens up to the general public as well as the professional audience.
The more than 3,000 participants of jazzahead! hail from around 60 countries and work in the following business areas: Artists and Promoters, Bookers, Lables, Agencies, Publishers, Festival and Club Programmers, Distributors, Production Companies, Lobby Institutions, Associations & Initiatives, Press, Media and more.
Partner Country 2019: Norway

Norway, as jazzahead!’s partner country 2019, will be highlighted with its jazz scene during jazzahead! festival and trade fair. The opening showcase night is dedicated to the partner country, presenting eight Norwegian bands at the stages in Hall 7 and Kulturzentrum Schlachthof. At the fair, a partner country lounge as well as a stand will be the place to get in contact with the Norwegian jazz scene and its protagonists. During the jazzahead! festival, Norway will also be the focus point of various events that introduce Norwegian culture to the Bremen based audience far beyond jazz and music. This festival, starting April 12th,2019, will over the course of two and a half weeks present literature, art, theatre, performances as well as music and will find its culmination point during the jazzahead! trade fair weekend.

For the first time in 2019, jazzahead! also showcases concerts under this main topic. These showcases are aimed at jazz musicians, music mediators, music teachers and students, as well as children at kindergarten and primary school age. A panel of experts has selected three projects from all applicants for this module, which will be presented in 20-minute interactive concerts. IN GERMAN.

FAQ

Showcases

WHEN DOES THE APPLICATION PHASE START?

This year, the application period has been shortened to three weeks: applications for jazzahead! 2019 showcase festival can be submitted from November 01st, 2018 till November 22nd, 2018.

HOW CAN I APPLY FOR A SHOWCASE?

Precondition for applying for a showcase slot is that the band/artist is proposed by a registered (co-)exhibitor or professional participant (all days) of jazzahead! 2019. Of course, bands/artists can register as (co-)exhibitors (e.g. with an umbrella stand) or professional participants (all days) themselves as well. An international jury of experts will then review all applications and select which of the proposed bands/artists will get one of the showcase slots. After the registration it is very easy to submit an application online via our integrated application system at www.jazzahead.de. Please read the next FAQ to get more information about the online application.

HOW DO I APPLY VIA JAZZAHEAD.DE?

New since 2017: the showcase application system is integrated into our website www.jazzahead.de. From Nov. 1st as registered (co-) exhibitor or professional participant (all days) you just need to log into your jazzahead! account "my jazzahead!". After log in please select on the left side “Showcases Application” and click on “Showcase Application Form” in the menu. The applications are submitted via this online application form. Please select the fitting module for your band and enter all information needed.

ON WHICH MODULE SHALL I/MY BAND APPLY?

We have 4 showcase Modules: Norwegian Night, European Jazz Meeting, German Jazz Expo and Overseas Night. For the Norwegian Night, the band should be a formation from Norway (this means, the majority of the band members should have a residence in Norway). For the European Jazz Meeting, the band should be a European formation (this means, the majority of the band members should have a residence in Europe, excl. Germany and Norway). For the Overseas Night, the band should be a formation from outside of Europe (this means, the majority of the band members should have a residence outside of Europe). For the German Jazz Expo, the band should be a formation from Germany (this means, the majority of the band members should have a residence in Germany).

You can suggest 1 band for each showcase module only (4 modules = 4 bands max.). The same band cannot be submitted for different modules!

MY BAND IS TOURING, ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BOOKING US?

The jazzahead! showcasing bands apply and are chosen by a jury. jazzahead! does not make the booking for the showcase concerts. Please see the first question for details on how to apply for a showcase concert.

Visitors

CAN I SEE THE CONCERTS IF I AM NOT AN (CO-)EXHIBITOR OR PROFESSIONAL PARTICIPANT?

Visitor tickets for the showcase concerts at Norwegian Night, European Jazz Meeting, German Jazz Expo and Overseas Night are available as individual tickets, for full days or for all days. Since 2016 the tickets do not include the trade fair anymore. The gala concert and other special concerts can be visited with a separate ticket. All ticket options can be found on our website from mid-October on.
On the jazzahead! days you can also buy your tickets on-site at the ticket counter in hall 7 but we suggest purchasing them in advance, especially the single tickets for the showcases because they are occasionally sold out.
As a visitor, you do not get the special benefits of a professional participant, exhibitor or co-exhibitor.
